When fellow ASMP colleague Hall Puckett asked if I would like to get involved with this project, my immediate response was, "Where do I sign?" Flashes of Hope is a non-profit organization dedicated to creating powerful, uplifting portraits of children fighting cancer and other life-threatening illnesses and I believe we can't do enough for these kids.
This day's session was at Texas Children's Cancer Center. The setup was very simple. I used one light and one reflector against a gray background. Make up artists Wendy Martin and Victoria Callaway were wonderful. Although a couple of the guys were a bit reluctant to go under the brush, the ladies loved it.
The kids were great and the parents were loving. We joked and talked about their favorite things. All kid stuff. All smiles. It was a really fun day.
One mother said she hadn't thought of photographing her daughter since she became ill. She felt, in a way, it would be giving up. There is always Hope.

why the makeup?
The makeup artists used a touch of powder to eliminate "shine" and also made sure their hair was under control. Some of the ladies freshened up their lip gloss as well. It was part of the feel good experience. They all loved it.
